The best surf in Guatemala is in El Paredon. With a pounding beach break offering a fast, strong wave, you're never short of waves to ride here.
El Paredón is one of the premier surfing destinations in Guatemala. Offering consistent waves year round (though rainy season can bring waves too big and heavy to surf) El Paredón is an amazing surf destination. It is home to a beach break, with waves breaking left and right down the entire beach. If you’re an experienced surfer the best time to go out is in the mornings (6-11am), or evenings when the wind has dropped (4-7pm). Make sure to check the tides as mid-tide can offer the best waves. Often the best spot is in front of the hotels, with a nice wave opposite Cocori, however waves can be found down the entire beach. If you walk directly from Villa Rosa to the beach you’ll find a fun wave in front of you, however it can close out there more than further down the beach. The advantage is you’ll often be the only person surfing there, with a wave to yourself.
Please remember, the wave in El Paredón is strong and fast, so if you have not surfed much before, do book a lesson with one of the local surf schools. It’s easy to get into trouble in the El Paredón wave (and many people have) due to the strong rip currents, so if you are new to surfing search out some help.
